Noble lady of the music, both reliable member in chamber music groups and imperious soloist, Silvia Chiesa's release is an unmissable homage to Nino Rota on occasion of the centenary from his birth. In the recent CD published by Sony, the Milanese cellist becomes magic voice-over of Rota’s universe interlacing her bow with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, conducted by Corrado Rovaris. On the music stand, we find the two Concertos for Cello and Orchestra, extreme emanations of a wide and eclectic production, still now only referring to the, beautiful anyway, movie soundtrack composition. Here, in the fastened comparison between these two scores, Rota’s soul lives intact again through the childlike spell pervaded by a typical Italian pathos, the sudden brightness which counterpoints a shady texture, the poetic lightness. Eminent Parca, able to create a sound which is already speaking substance, peremptorily, Silvia Chiesa dives with total adhesion in the mottled simplicity – where simple means essential – of these two texts and unknots their events, giving at the same time a great lesson of instrumental mastery.
